Bookbinding Video Tutorials
I've made this short video to show during bookbinding shows and fairs, as it answers all the major questions in just 30 seconds. However, I was a bit slow to share it. Don't know why. In this post, you'll find this video =)
My kids visited me in the Netherlands for a week and among other things we made some paper. My daughter made a YouTube video about that!
The first time I learned about phase boxes, I was on a tour of The Leeds Library. It was conducted by their bookbinder, Brian Cole, who ventured up from the depths of the library basement to show us around.
Sherif Afifi just published a new video tutorial dedicated to sewing a two-color endband on one core. It isn't a fast-paced video, so you'll have a chance to see all the details of the process.
Sherif Afifi is a book and paper conservator at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt. He has a wonderful collection of videos dedicated to bookbinding, book conservation and care for the other paper-related materials.
This video shows not only the process of gold tooling, there are all the preparation steps mentioned and described in the initial part of the video. I don’t think that’s enough to educate yourself on how gold tooling is done. However, it may help you to refresh the memory.
I’ve used quite a lot of starch paste during the past few months. I’m working on a book repair project and it goes not as fast as I’d like it to. However, I that gave me a chance to experiment with different sorts of paste and to make the following video.
We have prepared a video instruction showing how to make a headband on one core (one bâtonnet, or one cord, if you’d like it better that way).
When it comes to bookbinding, one of the most commonly overlooked areas is the gluing process, so we’ve decided to put together a YouTube Playlist of the best book binding related gluing video tutorials we could find.
