Book History in Postage Stamps
During my stay in Romania this January I’ve started to make a short video about the first Romanian printed book. It is pretty hard to find any illustrations or photos that are allowed to be used in a blog post (due to copyright limitations and stuff). That’s why I’ve decided to check some alternative sources. I visited a couple of state-owned stamp dealers in Bucharest and was lucky to buy one of the stamps dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the first printed book.
Right before returning to Moscow I’ve ordered some more Romanian stamps at eBay. A couple more a bit later. Some Russian stamps in March. Now I plan to gradually grow my small collection of postage stamps dedicated to books and book history.
Some more first day issue post cards and envelopes with stamps:
Peter Verheyen had a similar post several years ago. There are three stamps mentioned there (one of them I already have in my collection): http://pressbengel.blogspot.ru/2012/03/bookbinding-postage-stamps.html. I’m curious if his collection has grown since.
Another link I’d like to share with you today is this discussion at Stamp Community: http://www.stampcommunity.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14839. There are eleven pages of posts with book-related stamps from all over the world.
Are there any book-themed stamps in your collection? Or you prefer to collect some other book-related things?
